As the 112th Congress takes up the delayed transportation bill, leadership is shifting – and it’s unclear who will take responsibility for moving forward the policies we need to achieve a 21st century transportation system for our nation.
Until Congress acts, our aging transportation infrastructure will continue to put lives at risk – with crumbling bridges, unsafe streets, severe air pollution and ongoing dependence on foreign oil. We need an updated transportation program to protect our communities and jump-start California’s economy, and we need it ASAP.
Our own Senator Boxer will remain Chair of the powerful Environment and Public Works Committee that is writing the bill – and we must let her know that California wants her to lead the charge for a cutting-edge transportation system with strong provisions for transit, walking, biking, and high-speed rail.
